Oscar nominations: Jordan Peele makes history as he bags three important nominations
By Sewe Ishola,
Oscar nominations were announced recently, and as always it comes with some surprises. One of which was actor, comedian, writer, producer, and director, Jordan Peele, who made history as he bagged three Oscar nominations for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture for his critically acclaimed movie “Get Out”.
The ingenious horror film struck a chord with audiences and critics, and was rewarded with four nominations, three of which went to Peele while leading man, Daniel Kaluuya was recognised with a nomination for Best Actor.
The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri seem to have cemented their status as Best Picture favourites after receiving 20 nominations between them.
Peele’s nominations are especially significant. He’s the first African American ever to be nominated in all three major categories, and just the fifth to be nominated for Best Director.
Naturally, he was pretty excited about it. See his reactions on Twitter below:

I just spoke to Daniel. You know when you’re on the phone trying to disguise the sound of an ugly cry? I failed at that.

Right now I’m just thinking about everyone who bought a ticket and told someone else to. You did this. Thank you. ✊?
