Whether you like it or not, rivalry exists in the workplace. This is because human beings are generally competitive in nature. The good thing about workplace rivalry according to research is that it increases the levels of testosterone, which prepares the body and mind
Some industries are cut out for rivalry e.g the sales field. It quite normal there. That being said, how do you do when you face workplace rivalry:
1. Don’t lose focus. Use the competition you face to motivate you to do better.
2. Stay confident in your abilities. Keep your cool. Understand you are valuable and have a lot to offer in terms of your skills and expertise.
3. Find allies
You could form allies with work colleagues that are not hyper-competitive. Compliment them on their achievements while becoming a respected and important member of the team.
4. Don’t get personal
Get over jealous. You are there to work. Be motivated to work harder. So channel your energy to do so.
5. Acknowledge your competitors
They should drive you to learn about your weaknesses and strengths. Face them with maturity.
