Super Eagles player, Alex Iwobi, who is an Arsenal midfielder, has signed a new long-term contract, the Premier League club announced on Friday.
Iwobi, who has been at the Arsenal academy since he was nine years old, already has 98 first-team appearances at the age of 22.
Head coach of Arsenal, Unai Emery, speaking on this development, said:
“I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us,”
“He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”
Iwobi, who is also the nephew of Jay-Jay Okocha, broke into Arsenal’s first team during the 2015-16 season. His blend of size, speed and playmaking ability has been quite impressive. However, he struggled at times last season and has yet to add an end product to his game.
Speaking on his contract, Iwobi said:
“To get an extended contract is an amazing feeling and I hope I’m doing the Arsenal family proud,”
“The first kit that I had was Arsenal and long may I continue to represent them.”
