Killer of Akwa Ibom job seeker pleads guilty to murder, not guilty to rape
Uduak Akpan, the prime suspect in the murder of Iniubong Umoren, the Akwa Ibom graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), who was lured out of her home with a fake job interview, on Monday pleaded guilty to the murder.
He was arraigned before a State High Court judge in Uyo. The case is being prosecuted by the Akwa Ibom State Government.
Recall that Iniubong Umoren, 26, was raped and killed in April on the outskirts of Uyo by Akpan, who the police in Akwa Ibom State described as a serial rapist.
She was buried in a shallow grave in Akpan’s family house where the crime was committed.
Akpan, who was arraigned alongside his father, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape.
The victim was later given a proper burial in May at her hometown, Nung Ita, Ikot Essien in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
