It was a week of fashion extravaganza as the Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2018, took centre stage last weekend, at the City Centre.

Organized by Princess Ronke Ademiluyi the show returns for the 8 year, bringing with it all that maters in the fashion world: fashion editors, stylists, buyers and influencers, all converging in London for two days; August 10 and 11 to see the shape of style this year.

It featured over 40 designers from countries across Africa, including France, the United States and the Caribbean, who gave us a feel of what trends to go with this season and the next.

From bold brights, sexy suiting, clashing Prints to sheer, here are the trends sighted on the AFWL 2018 runways.

1 Fantastic frills

Designers couldn’t get enough of feminine frills as Multilayered tulle, cascading chiffon and fantastic frills dominated the scene as shown by Mary Matins London, Nedim Designs and others.

2. Long and short of it

Shorts, in a variety of forms, made a comeback on the catwalk this season. Van Else was brilliant with her tailoring, traditionally offering perfectly fitted jackets and smart suit ensembles, made with African prints. With the sports fashion trend showing no signs of diminishing, this is a key piece for any wardrobe.

3. Clashing Prints

Mixing prints was classically delivered by Soboye, Signature Secret Tobams colours, who showed us how to work the trend without being a mess.

4. Tassels and Fringing

F

ringing has since made a comeback for on the fashion with designers; Awa Kermel, Onyx by Valentina and Saraya giving us various interpretation of the trend.

5. Iridescent

Shine and iridescent colours set the tone for next season’s glitters. Your party nights just got hotter as showcased by Shoboye, Afrodite and Rusuvero.
