Toluhi Adedamola has emerged winner of the 2018 edition of the Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA) beauty pageant.

Adedamola, a 300-level English language student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), defeated other 21 finalists, at the grand finale of the contest, held last weekend in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Top ten contestants on stage

The event hosted by the wife of the Governor of Ogun State Mrs Olufunsho Amosun, began with the young hopefuls introducing themselves on stage while paying homage to the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

It saw the girls strutting the runway in three different looks; day , traditional and evening wear outfits, all trying to outdo each other with their catwalk and carriage. One of the high points of the show was the question and answer segment which saw some of the girls flunking their questions.

At the end of the contest Toluhi Adedamola clinched the title of Miss Moremi Ajasoro 2018. Agara Oluwatoyin, a 25-year-old from Ondo state, came second while Adejuwon Oluwaseyi, a creative fashion designer from Ogun got the third position.

Speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who initiated the project, said the aim was to promote the Yoruba culture among the youth to prevent it from extinction. Ogunwusi thanked Gov. Ibikunle Amosu of Ogun and his wife, Olufunso, for accepting to host the event in the ancient city of Abeokuta.

In his response Governor Ibikunle Amosu, said that he was honoured to host this memorable event. “The event is aimed at propagating our culture and with culture and tourism we can go to any length that we want to be and clearly we have started. For the organisers I say well-done and there is more to be done.” He said.

By her win, Adedamola becomes the youth ambassador of the Ooni of Ife and becomes a part of His royal entourage for local and foreign trips.. She was presented with a brand new car and N1million empowerment fund. The car was officially presented to Miss Adedamola in the presence of her mother, outside the premises where she had a demonstrative drive.

Agbara, the first runner-up, went home with N750, 000 cash gift while Oluwaseyi received N500,000 cash gift. Other contestants were also empowered with cash prizes.

Dignitaries that attended the event included royal fathers from the South West States, government personalities as well as other top dignitaries.
