Missy Elliott becomes 1st female hip hop artiste in hall of fame
Multiple Grammy Award-winning rapper, songwriter and producer Missy Elliott gas made history as the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She becomes the third rapper to be bestowed with such an honour.
She dominated hip-hop for about three decades, delivering classics such as “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control.” Behind the scenes, she has contributed her songwriting skills to a number of iconic musicians, including Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Janet Jackson, among many others.
Missy Elliott is also the only female rapper to have all six studio albums go platinum. Missy’s fellow 2019 inductees include names like John Prine, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, and Dallas Austin.
