Will Smith and Queen Latifah to produce hip-hop version of ‘Romeo & Juliet’
According to The Hollywood Reporter, American superstars, Will Smith and Queen Latifah are set to produce a hip-hop musical version of Romeo and Juliet for Netflix.
The media house claimed that the film is expected to be set against “the urban rhythms of New York,” and will tell the story of “a young waitress from the streets of Brooklyn and an aspiring musician from a wealthy family whose unconventional romance forces them to confront their life choices.”
Quite different from the original Romeo and Juliet story, but it still portrays the similar message: ‘star-crossed lovers’.
Furthermore, this project will reunite Will Smith and Queen Latifah since their collaborations in the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The director will be Solvan “Slick” Naim, who also created the short-form series It’s Bruno.
