Poem for my lover

November 1,2019
Share:

Just like a child cling  to his mother, I held on tight despite every pull from all corners.

Your love drowned me and all I could think of is about you because you’ve flooded my spirit and even polluted the air I breathe.

Just like there is no life without air, my mind can’t be settled without thought of you.

I got completely lost and realised that indeed love was truly blind.

They came telling me you were not good enough but I defended you like a lawyer in a court house.

I won the case and you gave me an assurance, which will remind me of the beauty of our love for ever.

The assurance gave me the most jittery feeling of my life, just a gaze and am mesmerized.

I kept gazing till the rain came and met me without an umbrella. It met me at a junction where I was far off and away from habitation.

I kept running and wishing we get shade but the journey was far, I fell in the mud and with my drenched dress I gathered mud all over me.

That didn’t stop me as I kept going believing that soon, we will get there. Finally I saw a shade and looked back to hold onto my lover ,he was no where to be found.

I ran to take shade but you were long gone. I kept wondering why you ‘turned your back on me’ Why you didn’t come all the way.

Slightly I realized that I was on my own, it dawned on me that I’d have to let my lover go so we can both have what we wanted.

I sacrificed what I wanted so much to what’s more important. I wanted a future where we can live without regrets.

Just like a bird in the sky, I left you to fly wide till you decide to come back to me. I will be here when you return.

I really don’t like to admit this but I love you and I hate you.

My lover you still rented spaces in my heart, please come pack out a tenant is here.

I won’t stop loving and hating on you because it gives me a lot of energy to keep pushing and grinding.
