South West Amotekun: Nigeria Needs Complement Security Architectures- Young Citizens of Nigeria

February 4,2020

The Delta State chapter of the Young Citizens of Nigeria  (YCN ) has supported the establishment of Western Nigeria Security Network code named operation Amotekun.

The group also called on South-South and South-East Governors to emulate the gesture to form a mechanism that will help put an end to the lingering cases of insecurity in the regions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Augustine Nwaobi,  its state director of Media and Publicity which was signed by Chairman, Comrade Ekene Okonkwo, the pressure group demanded that state governors, state assembles and citizens at large stand up for complement security architectures aimed at securing the lives and properties of persons living in Nigeria.

It applauded governors of South-West for creating Amotekun shortly after mourning the death of Funke Olakunrin daughter of Afenefere leader, Pa Rueben Fasanranti, adding that issues of insecurity should not be left for the police alone.

“Let’s use this opportunity to appreciate the pragmatic steps taken by the leaders of the six states that constitute the South-West of Nigeria in an attempt to fight for the safety of their people”.

It further stated that since insecurity in the country had reached a critical level, critical measures must be adopted in an attempt to restore sanity.

The statement continued: “Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Lagos can best be protected by indigenes and that is why Amotekun is timely.  Nigerians should not be allowed to continue dying in the hands of Boko Haram,  herdsmen, kidnappers and other criminal elements.

“Therefore, we commend the giant step taken by Governor Makinde of Oyo, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun in the creation of a support team that had pledge to complement the mainstream security agencies”.

It further charged “South-South and South-East with so many reported cases of insecurity perpetuated by the Fulani herdsmen who kill and rape women in their farmlands not to hesitate in emulating South-West by creating an Indigenous group that will have the responsibility of commanding the forest and farms”.
