I fight for women rights but not a feminist- Shafy Bello

Nollywood actress, Shafy Bello, says she’s not a feminist though she supports and fights for women-related courses.

The actress disclosed this during a chat with Kikelomo Akanda-Owo on the latest edition of ‘Real Talk With Kike,‘ a YouTube series.

Distancing herself from the “feminist” tag, Bello said such designation only creates unhealthy rivalry between men and women.

When asked if she’s a feminist, the actress said: “I’m a woman, do l need to to be? I’m a woman and I am there to support every course for women but l don’t say I’m a feminist.”

According to her, families and the society would be a better place when men and women understand the various roles they are expected to play to make things better.

“I think we (women) can do anything. But at the same time reverse back, I’m also someone who believes that in a home, there’s a man and there’s a place for the woman,” she said.

“Don’t get me wrong, l have my power, l know who l am as a woman, but at the same time, I’m not in competition with any man. There’s no reason for it. All l know is that in a home, there’s a place for the wife, and the husband.”

While reflecting on this year’s International Women’s Day, Bello noted that Nigerian women are unique and have all it takes to thrive in any environment.

The talented actress went on to enjoin young ladies to refuse societal pressures to get married, pointing out that such had ruined many lives.

She also stressed the need for women to support themselves for a common course in the society.
