I believe COVID-19 cure is coming from Africa – Stella Damasus

Nigerian actress, Stella Damascus says she believes the cure for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus, would come from Africa.

In a post on her Instagram page on Monday, the actress, while commemorating this year’s edition of Africa Day, said the continent has what it takes to find a cure for the treatment of the virus.

Africa Day is an annual commemoration of the foundation of the organisation of African Unity — now known as African Union (AU) — on May 25, 1963.

Reflecting on the significance of the day to the continent, the 42-year-old Nollywood star stressed the need for more unity among Africans.

According to her, though the novel disease has led to the death of several Africans, the continent would make significant progress in its fight against the virus with collective efforts.

“Happy Africa Day to all my African brothers and sisters all over the world. We stronger together. The virus has taken so many but together, we shall fight and overcome,” she wrote on Instagram page.

“We must all take care of one another regardless of religious, political and language differences. I believe that the cure is coming from Africa. Celebrate today and remember why. One love.”

As of Monday, Africa has 115,346 confirmed cases of the virus with 3,471 deaths and 46,426 recoveries according to Africa CDC.

Nigeria has so far recorded 8,068 cases of the virus with 2,311 recoveries and 233 deaths.

The continent has intensified search for local treatment of the virus with Madagscar developing a COVID-Organics, produced by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA).

The herbal remedy, has however, remained a subject of controversy.

Madagascar’s national medical academy had cast doubt on its efficacy while the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned against the use of any unapproved drug.
