Comedy sells like hot cake and not many do it better than Nigerians, which is why the industry has grown exponentially in recent decades.

Being an online comedian is big business these days. Asides from the fame and followership that comes with it, they also get various endorsement deals.

Gone are the days when many aspiring acts run to form long queues at talent shows just to get a shot at the limelight. Today, online comedy has taken over and everyone now has a fair shot at fame, using different formats and acts.

One such popular act is the trend of male comedians using the female persona, exaggerated mannerisms, and dressing to sell their craft.

Here are male comedians making waves with the act.

Josh2funny

Born Josh Alfred, the Nigerian comedian, actor and singer plays several characters while telling his jokes.

His most popular alter ego is ‘Mama Felicia’ a mischievous Nigerian woman who is always clad in ankara print and a shabbily tied headgear. She is always seen reading from an upside-down hymn book.

With nearly two million followers on Instagram, Josh2funny is one of the most successful Instagram comedians around.

Zicaloma

A fast-rising star, Isaac Aloma has wormed his way into our hearts with his quick tongue and sharp wit.

He constantly switches between playing the role of Mama Amazing Grace, a troublesome old lady, to Sister Ekwitos, a born-again fellow, and Mama Desperate, the ever-pregnant woman.

With great costumes, funny expressions and hilarious characters, the singer who quit lecturing for comedy is sure to leave you entertained.

Oluwakaponeski

Oluwatobi Adeshina Onibatedo is a Nigerian Instagram sensation who is currently serving in the American army.

He is famously known for his alter ego ‘Mama Tobi’ — an animated woman who wears a green blouse and wrapper with a gold headgear.

Steven Chuks

Akaelu Steven Ebuka portrays the female character so well that he could successfully pass for a lady.

Gifted with multiple accents and impressions, he portrays the dilemma women go through, using characters such as Madam Gold, Onyinyechi, Udodi, and Cleopatra, the high-class, proud and sassy woman.

Twyse Ereme

The Edo-born comedian plays multiple roles in his comedy series ‘Twyse and Family’. The major characters include Daddy Tobi, Mummy Tobi, Tobi, Taofeek, Sade, Ridwan, and grandma. He portrays the experiences faced in a typical African home.

Ereme Abraham, a UK-based comedian, boasts of over one million followers on Instagram.

Klintoncod

Born Ekene Clinton Egbuna, the Nigerian-British comedian is as hilarious as they come.

Wearing the toga of a woman, he depicts an array of diverse situations in many Nigerian homes, churches, and the society at large.

With over 400 thousand followers on Instagram, he is sure enjoying his craft.

Madjohnny

JohnMary Chikwendu is a talented comedian who dances, acts, and mimics.

He is popular for his role as a prophetess who is always delivering prophecies. He tries to mimic female evangelists and preachers from the eastern part of Nigeria.

Comedian Sir One on One

Igwe Uchenna is better known as Comedian Sir One on One.

He is popular for wearing female attire in his comedy skits and plays the role of ‘Women leader’, a boisterous Nigerian woman.

Paul Scata

Ekejuiba Paul is blessed with a great sense of humour.

He switches between playing the role of Brestilola, the big-breasted lady; Pragya, the shy Indian girl; and Natasha, the fake slay queen.

Even though he isn’t one of the most popular comedians, he is already making an impact on social media.
