FASHION REVIEW; PIECES THAT FEELS LIKE A PERSONAL STATEMENT

Some outfits can absolutely do more than flatter your body. They tell stories about who you are and how you choose to be seen. It is more than the colour or fabric, but the confidence these pieces exude. That is the magic that Lola Threads captures into every design. Every piece in the collection feels like a personal statement stitched with confidence. Likewise, every detail in each outfit has a purpose.

Lola Threads isn’t in the business of making clothes just to be worn. The brand is creating moments. Pieces that don’t just hang in a wardrobe but live in memory. From the first sketch to the final stitch, every design carries intention. Crafted to align with identity and not follow trends.

The founder, Ayobami Ololade Ogunbiyi, didn’t just create another fashion label. Lola Thread was built for the woman who loves to show up in her full self. Each piece gives room to move, to breathe, to own her space with ease. They understand elegance, but they also understand personality. And that blend is rare. It’s what makes you stop, look again, and maybe even feel a little braver yourself.

And it’s not just about fitness or fabric. It’s about the story. Many of the prints and design elements carry echoes of Nigerian culture, old crafts, and new ideas woven together. Each piece becomes a conversation between heritage and modernity. So, when you wear Lola Threads, you’re not just dressing up. You’re declaring something about your taste and power.

In its 2021 collection, Lola threads showcased designs that help you feel good as soon as you wear them. These pieces blend with your body and elevate your appearance and confidence.

The first outfit in the collection is a lime green dress that is all about making a bold statement. At first glance, this outfit exudes sophistication and luxury. The sleeves add a bit of drama to the outfit, making it the real show-stealer. It is designed into an extra-wide and dramatic flowing wing-like shape.

The sleeves add a strong, high-fashion feel to the outfit.
The neckline, on the other hand, keeps things grounded. It’s a clean, structured mock neck that balances out the bold sleeves nicely. But the sleeves, while stunning, could be tricky in real life.

They’re so wide that they might not be the most practical when eating, dancing. Even holding a bag could be a little clumsy due to its size. Slight tapering or a slit might help make them more wearable without killing the drama.
The first thing this dress does is grab your full attention. It feels like it’s made for a moment such as a runway, a photo shoot, or a spotlight entrance at an event.

The silhouette is lean and sharp, which makes those bold sleeves feel even more powerful. This contrast creates visual excitement. You won’t forget this dress, and that’s a good thing. But it does lean heavily toward performance wear rather than day-to-day style. If the designer’s goal was to make an impact, they nailed it.

However, if the outfit is aimed at versatility, there is much room to fix that part.
For a fashion-forward audience, the outfit hits the mark. The dress fits snugly but not tightly, which means it hugs the body without restricting movement. But the extreme sleeve length limits its everyday use, especially for shorter wearers who might feel overwhelmed. This would impair the commercial sense of the outfit, as it appeals to a specific kind of wearer. For it to sit well on more body types, some variation in sleeve volume or length would be great.

Nevertheless, the colour is great for spring and summer. It pops without feeling childish.
From the structure, it is evident that the craftsmanship used in the outfit is clean and elevated. The seams around the bodice are straight and tidy, and the fabric holds structure without looking stiff. This shows that the designer chose a fabric which is perfect for sculptural sleeves like these.

But there’s a slight sense that the inner edge of the sleeves could have used more finesse. They look a bit raw, like the hem might not hold up long with movement. Lining could add more polish and weight. This would help retain the structure at the edges.

Combining the outfit with light accessories can help make a bold fashion statement. A clutch bag and heels would enhance overall elegance, thereby improving your personal statement.
Overall, this dress is a bold, high-fashion choice with a clear personality. It’s confident, sharp, and hard to ignore. With a few small changes, it could step from runway to real life a little more smoothly.

The next outfit that made its way into the collection is a jumpsuit. The outfit, which is not made from a plain outfit like other pieces in the collection, announces itself with its colour. The brushstroke prints offer a full visual experience. This gives the outfit a fluid and expressive feel.

But the real intrigue begins with how the silhouette plays with skin and structure. There’s a peek of midriff through a small cut-out, a flash of shoulder from the cold-shoulder sleeves, and long, draping sleeve panels that mimic waterfall lines. The dramatic sleeve has a slit, that makes it more practical unlike the first design. This enhances the outfit’s versatility.

This piece has a strong attraction. The print alone is high energy, but combine that with the unexpected cuts and tailored fit, and you’ve got drama with depth. The design is purposeful and every cut-out, every slit in the sleeve, every brushstroke feels thought through. You can’t help but notice how the colours flow from the bodice down through the wide legs. This elongates the frame and keeps the eye moving. It’s not your average jumpsuit—it’s a full fashion moment.

As for retail readiness, there’s potential—especially if marketed right. This piece would likely appeal to bold dressers, creatives, and style risk-takers. It leans more towards event wear than something you’d toss on casually. But the wide-leg structure makes it forgiving on different body types. And the waist cut-out is subtle enough to stay flattering rather than awkward.

The fit appears relaxed but intentional, meaning it could sit well across multiple sizes with just a few tweaks. A petite version might need shortening in the leg or sleeves, but nothing extreme.

From a designer’s point of view, the construction holds up well despite the complexity. The slit sleeves are neatly done, the neckline sits flat, and there’s no sign of pulling around the bust or waist. This is impressive considering the cut-outs. The fabric choice is ideal for this design. It drapes and falls gracefully, but with enough stiffness to hold those striking shapes. Hemming looks clean at the base, and the trousers fall evenly, which tells us the tailoring is on point.

While this outfit is greatly constructed, making adjustments to the sleeve type and the cut out and making it appeal to a more formal setting. Taking out the midriff cut-out or moving it to the bust region can enhance the overall appeal. Likewise, making the sleeve a bit less dramatic would elevate the overall feel of the dress.
All in all, this piece is fearless. It combines confident print work with strong tailoring and an understanding of movement and line.

The last outfit in the collection is a kind of elegance that doesn’t announce itself loudly. It doesn’t need ruffles or sparkle, nor fight for attention. Instead, it stands still, confident, composed, and quietly unforgettable. From first glance, there’s a softness to it that draws you in. The two-piece is designed to exude a bold fashion statement.

The one-shoulder neckline is tastefully modern, exposing just enough skin to feel refined yet a little romantic. It breaks away from symmetry in a way that feels fresh, not forced. The satin doesn’t cling to the skin, causing any form of discomfort. It understands the body and knows how to flatter it without being restrictive.

The way the top cinches gently at the waist before spilling into wide-leg trousers gives the entire look a grounded balance. It’s a simple design, making a strong case for how simplicity can be its kind of sophistication. The wide-leg pant also adds structure to the fitted top, creating a balanced proportion.

There’s also practicality woven into this piece. It’s the kind of outfit that doesn’t need a special occasion to be one. It turns every event into a special occasion. This outfit is perfect for dinner dates, gallery openings, or power moments in the boardroom.

The craftsmanship holds up impressively. No loose hems or unnecessary fuss. Just deliberate design and solid execution. Nevertheless, reducing the pant size can help appeal to a wider audience. Shorter wearers might not get comfortable in the wide pant size, thereby limiting the commercial scale of the outfit.

From the 2021 collection review, one can see that every thread and detail matters to Lola Thread. Every outfit exudes confidence. That’s why Lola Threads isn’t simply clothing. It’s clarity, confidence and making a personal statement every time you get dressed.
