TIME has revealed its TIME100 Most Influential Companies, a new list that highlights 100 businesses making an extraordinary impact around the world.

Nigeria fintech firm, Flutterwave was recognized as a “Pioneer” on TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies for making an extraordinary impact around the world.

According to TIME, the company was selected for its efforts in powering retailers after the pandemic restricted movements in the region.

Olugbenga Agboola, the co-founder and CEO explained that when pandemic lockdowns hit brick-and-mortar businesses, the digital payment service started a free campaign tagged “keeping the lights on.” This campaign, according to him, was able to rapidly set up digital storefronts for 20,000 customers, throwing them a lifeline.

To assemble the list, TIME solicited nominations across every sector including health care, entertainment, transportation, technology and more from its global network of editors and correspondents, as well as from industry experts. Each company was then evaluated on key factors, including relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, ambition and success.

Flutterwave was listed among several companies in the financial technology industry, including Nubank, Alibaba, Mastercard, Robinhood, Stripe, and more.

Major tech companies, including Microsoft, Samsung, Huawei, Apple, Tencent, Nintendo, Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, Zoom and more are included on the list. The entertainment industry is also represented on the list by a range of businesses, including Netflix, Spotify, TikTok, HYBE, and Disney.
