Kemi Adeosun: NYSC Certificate not required for political office, Court says
The Federal High Court’s Abuja Division has ruled that ex-finance minister Kemi Adeosun does not require an exemption certificate from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to occupy a political office.
This comes after Adeosun was entangled in the NYSC certificate issue, after which she resigned and fled to the United Kingdom in 2018.
In his judgment on the original summons, Justice Taiwo Taiwo found that the NYSC certificate was not a constitutionally mandated prerequisite for holding political office in the country.
It is uncertain if President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration or the police would sue Adeosun for using a fake NYSC exemption certificate. The suit’s plaintiff was Adeosun, but the only defendant was the federation’s attorney general.
