Nnamdi Ibe is an entrepreneur, business consultant and Senior Partner at Excel and Grace Consulting. I’ve in the last couple of years been referred to as The Surgeon. They call him so because of the way he dissects business problems, make them simple and proffer solutions.

But that’s not all about Nnamdi, he is an Author, TedX speaker, Husband and father. So why did he write this book:

“I got tired.

Let me explain.

I believe there are exceptional Nigerian employees, and I’d like to say they are in 3 categories.

First, The exceptional. Most of these people have left Nigeria and are being useful in foreign countries.

“Then the second level: Most of these people have been hired by businesses and companies that have more money than most small businesses. (The Oil and Gas companies, the banks, telcos, etc).

“The rest. These are those who we encounter in our everyday business endeavors.

“The trust remains that there is no factory where we can manufacture good human beings, so what we have is what we have.

I got tired of all the complaints from business owners that they couldn’t find great staff (especially at the amount they are willing to pay) so UNSACKABLE is my solution to this problem”.

Nnamdi explains that, “the ideas I shared in the book have been things I’ve practiced for a while. I just drew out the skeleton, broke them down into steps. Then using the steps, I recorded my thoughts on each step and sent the recordings to be transcribed. Worital (my publishers) took over from there.”

In telling us more about the content of the book. The author says, “the book contains 6 chapters of practical steps to help anyone who follows the steps become a rock star employee. I talk about things like; What makes some employees stand out.
How to be a USEFUL employee. How to measure your achievements at work. How to behave at work so that your boss notices and commends you.
What to do about your appearance without spending so much money. How to talk to people in the workplace. What employers expect from their staff, from their own mouths. And more.

Nnamdi isn’t a first time author. He has written other books, but they were all ebooks that did quite well.

UNSACKABLE however is his first book in print.

And he believes UNSACKABLE isn’t a book, “it’s a movement. The intention is to raise and formidable and useful workforce for Nigerian Business Owners.
There will be conferences, book tours, etc. It’s a movement.”

This Port Harcourt grown business man had parents who were teachers and authors of different books. He tells us how that sharpened him. His father wrote books on computers science and the mum wrote two books on the English Language.

So, his father had two mastered degrees and a Ph.D. before he passed.

While his mum got her Ph.D. in his first semester at the university.

“Imagine the battle when I told my parents I wasn’t interested in doing a master’s degree, and that all I wanted to do was business. Awesome times.
Funny how I’m still teaching and authoring books like them.”

He doesn’t believe in mentorship. Or has he puts it, he has stopped having mentors.

“Recently, I stopped having mentors. I started having people I call maps. (I learnt that from Vusi Thembekwayo, brilliant guy). Maps are people who provide direction to you in critical parts of your life. They help you identify honestly where you are, where you are going and provide direction for you to move from point A to B. You however take 100% responsibility for implementation. Currently, I have 3 maps, and I’ll rather not mention their names.
As for favourite authors; I’ve got 3. Simon Sinek, Emeka Nobis and Akin Alabi.”

We poked Nnamdi to jump on a national discuss. He obliged.

He had something to say:

“I think we need to focus on creating Nigerian solutions to Nigerian problems.
The banking system we run is modeled after the western world. So we are using first-world banking principles to navigate a 3rd world economy.
Our Constitution is mostly modeled after the Americans.
Same thing.
We need Nigerian and African solutions to our problems.
Mark Zuckerberg recently talked about the Metaverse. I don’t think as a nation we should concern ourselves with things like that because we have Nigerian problems like power, to confront.
Speaking of Mark Zuckerberg, Meta is investing 10 billion dollars to fund research and the development of the Metaverse.

“When will we start funding research to solve our problems? Many of the research institutes that exist today were founded during the colonial era.
We need Nigerian solutions to our problems.”
