Nigerian Afropop star, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has lost both categories he was nominated at the 2022 Grammys.

Wizkid was put up in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category for ‘Essence’, his collaboration with Tems.

Also nominated in the category is ‘Pa Pa Pa’ by Femi Kuti and ‘Do Yourself’ by Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy.

Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ and ‘Legacy +’ by Femi and Made Kuti were up in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category.

However, Wizkid lost to Kidjo, the Beninese singer, in the first category, and to Arooj Aftab, a Pakistani vocalist, in the second.

In 2o20, ‘Twice As Tall’, Burna Boy’s body of work, became the first Afrobeats album to win a Grammy award.

Wizkid had also won a Grammy in 2021 for ‘Best Music Video’ following his work in Beyonce’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’.

The 2022 Grammy awards aired on Sunday, April 3 on the CBS Television Network and Paramount+ as scheduled.

As announced, American comedian, Trevor Noah, returned to host the ceremony for the second year in a row.

The 2022 Grammys is a return to normalcy after two years of postponed, remote, and cancelled award shows.

It’s also the first the Grammys held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, rather than New York and Los Angeles.
