Seyi Shay says she won’t be on Nigerian Idol again
When she made her judging debut and participated in the Nigerian Idol competition last year, singer Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, better known as Seyi Shay, generated a lot of discussion.
She stepped down from the judging panel after serving a year on the well-known and respected show.
Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, nicknamed Simi, and Dapo Oyebanji, aka D’Banj, two singers, took her spot this year along with the other judge on her season, Soseneyayi Amar-Aigbe, called DJ Sose.
Even though Seyi Shay was absent from the show, many viewers still thought it would be better with her there. The season continued to be a huge success.
However, the singer has firmly stated that she won’t appear on the program again.
She expressed the following about her time on the show:
“Being a judge on Nigerian Idol this year was one of the most challenging jobs I’ve ever done in my life because I had so much backlash.”
“A lot of people were not expecting me to be on their TV screens everyday for six months. They were not ready, but I think by the end of it, I made some great new fans and Nigeria found a sweetheart because I’m not a bad person.”
“I feel like in the beginning when you have to be strict and find a superstar for your country, you gotta be firm. But by the end of that Nigerian Idol journey, I fell in love more with my job and the show and my fans and vice versa.”
“So it was a great experience all in all. I am not doing it again though. I’m not doing that kind of thing again, no, thank you! I think that era is gone. I did it. came, saw, conquered. Like, I’m good. It was a really challenging time and it took a whole six months of my year. I couldn’t do anything else.”
“Now, I have loads of other exciting things to unravel to the world, so I won’t be doing the next season cuz I’m a big girl now and we gotta move. But I loved it, I’m not going to take that away.”
