I took my stage name from a friend – Blaqbonez

Emeka Akumefule, fast-rising Nigerian rapper best known by his stage name Blaqbonez, has explained how he came up with his stage name.

In the most recent episode of the “Tea With Tay” podcast, the rapper revealed that an anonymous friend had formerly owned his stage name.

He continued by saying that he asked his friend to let go of the name for his usage since he wasn’t using it for anything significant.

This, according to the rapper, is because he had fallen in love with the name. Blaqbonez added that he had to get his friend’s permission before he started using it legally.

He said;

I stole it, it was my friend’s name. His name was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t using it for anything. The guy just likes rap so he gave himself a rap name, he wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything.

So, one day, I just said ‘bro, you no dey use this name and I like am’ and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I was in school then.

The artist also admitted that he took up rapping as a career in response to a challenge from his cousin.

He added:

I had no idea I could sing or rap earlier. I started rapping because I was challenged by my cousin. I used to criticize people; I thought nothing was difficult.

I thought whatever you’re doing, if I decide to do it, I will do it better so that’s how I started rapping.
