Kcee reveals switch to Gospel song is deliberate
Kcee, whose stage name is Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, has said that his transition from secular to Christian music was deliberate.
Kcee released “Cultural Praise (Vol. 3)” in 2021, a song from his debut album, “Cultural Praise,” which featured the Okwesili Eze Group.
Five gospel praise and worship songs from the East and West sides, each lasting at least eight minutes, were included in the medley.
Kcee disclosed that he purposefully changed directions to avoid becoming complacent after more than two decades of making music.
He said,
“The switch was deliberate and intentional. I’ve been doing this for twenty-three years so, you can’t be stagnant. So, sometimes for me, I have to move it around, switch it around. And that was one of those things I did. And it clicked, it worked for me somehow.”
He explained the source of his new sound as follow:
“For those that know about my career, it started from thea church. I grew up in a home where my father was the DJ, selling some of those old records. So, I’ve always had that somewhere behind me to revamp some of those old songs.
And so, when the idea came, I tried it and some people were like, “No, it’s not going to work. Don’t release it.”
Some people were like “just try it” and at the end of the day, it worked.”
