Atoke Atelier once again captivated the fashion world with the launch of its Amope Collection at Lagos Fashion Week, held from September 7th to 9th, 2022.

The collection, which focused on reimagining Adire fabric for Afro-urban fashion, showcased the brand’s commitment to blending traditional African textiles with contemporary design.

Funmilola Oluwajuwonlo Oduronbi, the creative force behind Atoke Atelier, demonstrated her ability to push the boundaries of fashion while staying true to her cultural roots.

The Amope Collection was a vibrant display of innovation, where the rich history of Adire fabric was woven into modern, urban silhouettes that spoke to today’s fashion-forward woman.

Each piece in the collection was a testament to the brand’s expertise in merging tradition with trend, creating looks that were both bold and timeless. One of the standout pieces on the runway was a blue Adire mini dress that perfectly encapsulated the essence of the collection.

The dress featured a unique cut with big, dramatic sleeves that added a touch of elegance and flair. The design skillfully showcased the model’s figure, striking a balance between boldness and sophistication.

The intricate patterns of the Adire fabric were highlighted by the deep blue tones, making this dress a showstopper and a favorite among the audience. Another striking look was a white mini dress adorned with patterns of Ankara pieces along the ends of the gown. This piece beautifully illustrated the fusion of two iconic African fabrics—Adire and Ankara—creating a harmonious blend of textures and patterns. The subtle contrast of the white fabric with the colorful Ankara detailing gave the dress a fresh, youthful energy that was both playful and refined.

The collection also featured a two-piece silky suit that added a touch of luxury to the Afro-urban theme. This ensemble, with its sleek lines and smooth texture, showcased the versatility of Adire fabric when combined with modern, high-end materials. The suit was both stylish and comfortable, embodying the effortless chic that is at the heart of Afro-urban fashion. It was a perfect example of how traditional elements can be reinterpreted for contemporary, urban settings, making it suitable for both formal and casual occasions.

Throughout the show, Atoke Atelier’s Amope Collection received praise for its innovative designs and its ability to make traditional African fabrics relevant in modern fashion. The collection was a clear reflection of Funmilola’s vision to elevate African textiles to global fashion standards while maintaining their cultural significance.

The use of Adire in each piece was not just a nod to tradition, but a celebration of African heritage, reimagined for the modern, urban woman. The Amope Collection at Lagos Fashion Week was more than just a showcase of beautiful clothing—it was a statement about the future of African fashion.

Atoke Atelier continues to lead the charge in bringing African craftsmanship to the forefront of the global fashion scene, and with collections like Amope, the brand is well on its way to solidifying its place as a key player in the world of fashion.
