US varsity disapproves tweets from Nigerian-born Professor who wished Queen Elizabeth “excruciating pain”

The United States’ Carnegie Mellon University has expressed reservations about Uju Anya’s tweets regarding Queen Elizabeth II of England.

On Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II died. At the time of her death, she was 96 years old and the longest-serving British monarch.

Anya, a Carnegie Mellon University Associate Professor of second language acquisition, has previously lambasted the late queen in a series of tweets.

Before the monarch died, Anya wished “excruciating pain.”

The Nigerian-born academic had also accused Queen Elizabeth II of supporting the “genocide” that got her family displaced

The professor, whose father is Igbo, did not elaborate on the context of her remark about “sponsored genocide that massacred and displaced half my family.”

If anyone expects me to express anything but disdain for the monarch who supervised a government that sponsored the genocide that massacred and displaced half my family and the consequences of which those alive today are still trying to overcome, you can keep wishing upon a star.

Her tweets, on the other hand, could be tied to the Nigerian civil war that lasted from 1967 to 1970, less than ten years after Nigeria obtained independence from Britain.

Tens of thousands of individuals have expressed their displeasure with Anya’s tweets.

The institution responded to the news by stating that, while it supports “free expression,” it does not accept the professor’s opinions.

We do not condone the offensive and objectionable messages posted by Uju Anya today on her personal social media account.

Free expression is core to the mission of higher education, however, the views she shared absolutely do not represent the values of the institution no the standards of discourse we seek to foster.

Meanwhile, Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos also replied to the academic’s remarks.

In his words:

This is someone supposedly working to make the world better? I don’t think so. Wow
