Asa sues Joeboy $300m over copyright infringement

October 4,2022
Share:

Popular R&B singer and songwriter, Asa, has demanded $300 million naira from YBNL artist, Joeboy and producer Tempoe for infringement of copyright in Joeboy’s recent hit song “Contour.”

Pulseng revealed that she conveyed this to Joeboy via a letter from Asa’s Lawyers, which the artist posted on his Instagram Story. The content revealed allegations of a copyright lawsuit involving Joeboy’s composition ‘Contour.’

According to Asa’s lawyers, she wrote the song during a recording session with Tempoe on September 22, 2020. It went on to say that Joeboy and Tempoe’s client had not given them permission to use the composition.

According to the letter’s instructions, the song must be removed from all DSPs within 24 hours of receipt.

They also demanded that Joeboy and Tempoe apologise to their client (Asa) and seize all future infringements.

As restitution for the harm done, Asa seeks 300,000,000 naira in damages as well as a 60% cut of the split sheet.

While the content of the letter appears to be aggressive, Joeboy appears to have handled the news with ease, daring Asa and her lawyers to do worse.

He reposted the letter with the caption “LOL. Cos I dey always do love and light you think sey I be soft meat.”
