When compared to January’s N819 million in sales, February saw a sharp decline in attendance at theaters.

He attributed the drop in sales to the cash shortage and the subpar network service delivery encountered by POS operators nationwide.

Ajayi added that the week leading up to the presidential and national assembly elections saw an all-time low in movie attendance.

He continued by saying that because movie producers refrained from producing films during the election season, February’s movie offerings at theaters were restricted.

“A couple of reasons are responsible for the drop in sales. We lost a weekend of sales during the Presidential and National Assembly elections, Nigerians’ attention was focused on voting across the country.”

“Cash crunch and POS failures, affecting trading generally are also affecting the cinemas.

“Many movie producers and distributors avoided releasing movies during the election period. So, the content was also somewhat limited,” he said.

Ajayi revealed that “Antman” and “Love in a Plague” were the two most popular movies shown in theaters in the nation in February.

“Creed III,” “What love got to do with it,” “Shazam Fury of the Gods,” “John Wick IV,” “Different Strokes,” and “Dungeons and Dragons 83” were among the movies he mentioned as ones to watch out for in March.
