INEC replies Davido’s allegation of withheld Uncle’s certificate
David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, had accused Nigeria’s election organization, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, of impropriety.
On his Twitter account on Tuesday, the musician made accusations.
The star singer, who is the governor-elect’s nephew, questioned why INEC had not given his uncle his certificate 48 hours after the vote.
Adeleke, who ran for office on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform on July 16, defeated incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 375,027 votes, as well as 13 other candidates, with 403,371 votes.
Evidently concerned that INEC might compromise the will of the people, Davido wrote:
“@inecnigeria, should we send you fuel money LOL.
“Please no one should tamper with the will of the Osun People!
“Issue the certificate as required by Law!”
Without a direct mention of the Davido’s name, the commission’s reply asked individuals who were skeptical of its intentions to become involved in the Osun election and familiarize themselves with the Electoral Act.
