I inherited fashion talent from my mum – PJ Prejoys Jolomi Gedu
For talented Jolomi Joy Gedu, fashion is not only a passion; its also a way of life.
Like mother, like daughter.
Jolomi took after her mum in every ramification, especially creativity. She indeed inherited her creative skills from her mother who was a versatile and well-known tailor in her days.
Recalling her humble beginning, Jolomi said, Fashion has always been in me right from my early years when I used to watch my mum sew with her Singer sewing machine. I also used to make clothes for my dolls in different designs with only needle and thread.”
However, in 2016, Jolomi Gedu decided to acquire a formal training in fashion design. She enrolled under a fashion designer who taught her how to cut and sew. “I enrolled for a formal training in fashion design in 2016. Later, I started to understudy fashion designers and learning the business from 2017 till 2022 when I launched PJ Prejoy Fashion House, she remarked.
Today, PJ Prejoy Fashion has grown exponentially to an indigenously owned fashion brand that focuses on bridging the gap between contemporary haute couture, and African fabrics and designs.
At PJ Prejoy Fashion, we make ready to wear, bespoke female dresses for all ages. To us, fashion is life; it is a culture, a way of life. Style is influenced by time, age and environment. So, our brand is known for delivering high quality, stylish and trendy wears, the fashionista affirmed.
In attestation to these principles, Jolomi on April 2, 2023 showcased her premium designs to a wide applause at a runway show tagged: Warri Fashion Lifestyle Festival’ held at Brownhill Coliseum, Ogunu, Warri, Delta State. But after such a wonderful feat, whats next for the enterprising fashion designer? Her response: “I dont want to be a local champion, therefore I am not resting on my oars. Now, my ambition is to make the PJ Prejoy Fashion brand known globally.
Talking about customer relations, Jolomi, who loves to don a mix of formal contemporary wears spiced with African cultural attires, delivers appropriately on agreed date and time.
“Here, at Prejoy Fashion House, we relate very well with our customers; we respect agreed time of delivery. As a result of this, most customers that seem difficult for others to handle usually come to us. Although, tolerance and emotional intelligence are a key part of our customer service delivery, she said.
To the Delta State Universitys graduate of Animal and Environmental Sciences and Master degree holder from University of Benin, every dress made is a vision and conception brought to life. “I am excited when I see my clients bounce in confidence due to my designs,” she quipped.
For all her glorious achievements in the industry, Jolomi boasts of local and international fashion icons as role modes. They include Veekee James, Nitaz Couture, Medlin Boss, Donna Karan, and Kate Spade.
