Nollywood actress Adunni Ade was moved to tears after being recognized alongside industry giants such as Mo Abudu, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, and others.

Nigerian Box Office recently unveiled its list of the top box office women in Filmmaking for 2022, and Adunni’s name graced the esteemed lineup.

Expressing her gratitude, an emotional Adunni took to her Instagram page to share her feelings about the honor.

Reflecting on her journey, she revealed that a decade ago, she looked up to Funke Akindele when she decided to embark on her Nollywood career.

Adunni fondly remembered Funke Akindele’s iconic character, Jenifa, and how it resonated with her interactions with Nigerians in Kentucky.

The two eventually crossed paths in New York, and Adunni described Funke as the sweetest soul. Their collaboration materialized in Season 2 of Jenifa, a moment she cherished greatly.

Furthermore, Adunni acknowledged the impact of other remarkable women in the industry. She expressed her admiration for Jade Osiberu, whose film “Sugar Rush” inspired her deeply and ignited her own passion for filmmaking.

Adunni added that she was moved to tears while watching the film and immediately commenced planning for her own project. She even reached out to Jade Osiberu to direct her film “SOOLE,” eagerly anticipating the opportunity to work together.

Adunni also expressed her anticipation of collaborating with Biodun Stephen, whom she met upon her arrival in the country.

After a decade-long wait, Adunni is thrilled for the world to witness Biodun’s creative brilliance.

Grateful for the support and opportunities, Adunni extended her appreciation to Aunty Mo Abudu for involving her in “Sons of the Caliphate” and commended her tenacity in the world of filmmaking.

Closing her heartfelt message, Adunni thanked Filmoneng for the recognition and emphasized that her journey continues with two exciting projects on the horizon.

In her words;

“To be celebrated alongside these great women in film beyond me. I have come across some women who have impacted me as an Actor and a new filmmaker.

“When I decided to get into Nollywood a decade ago. I looked up to sis @funkejenifaakindele Her “Jenifa” character was pretty much my behavior whenever I came across any Nigerian in Kentucky. I met her in New York and she was the sweetest soul! I loved her charisma and looked forward to the day we’d work together which eventually happened in Season 2 of Jenifa.

“You’ve been very supportive and I’m thankful! Unknowingly to @jadeosiberu, you pushed me into making my own project with your film “sugar rush”. I was in tears the day I watched it and immediately started my planning on how I would make a film. I actually contacted her to direct SOOLE. Though I haven’t worked with you yet, it’s something I’m looking forward to!

“”Thank you Aunty @moabudu for having me on “Sons of the caliphate” I admire your tenacity in filmmaking!

“@filmoneng thank you for this. The show doesn’t stop! We keep it moving! 2 New projects coming your way soon”.

Adunni Ade’s inclusion among these esteemed women of the Nigerian Box Office signifies her growing influence and contribution to the film industry.
