Art Twenty One is responding to the burgeoning artistic community needs in Lagos – Caline Chagoury Moudaber
Art Twenty One proudly announces its forthcoming retrospective exhibition, “Prelude: A Decade of Art Twenty One,” celebrating a remarkable journey of exhibitions, residencies, collaborations, and cultural programming.
This momentous exhibition will commence with a special ten-day preview from November 1 to November 10, showcasing a year-by-year tribute to a decade of transformative projects with collaborators.
The official exhibition will run from November 11, 2023, to January 20, 2024, featuring masterpieces from influential artists who have shaped the identity of Art Twenty One.
Established in 2013, Art Twenty One responded to the burgeoning artistic community needs in Lagos, becoming a pivotal space for local and international artists to exhibit and collaborate. Originally conceived as a flexible platform, the gallery evolved into a traditional model, participating in international art fairs and hosting renowned artists, including Wolfgang Tillmans, Prune Nourry, Alex Majoli, and Paolo Pellegrin. Over the years, Art Twenty One has also showcased groundbreaking Lagos fashion designers and hosted design exhibitions like Floor One 9.
Founder Caline Chagoury Moudaber expressed gratitude to the community, noting, “I am filled with gratitude for our community of artists, supporters, and collaborators that have built this project alongside us.” Moudaber acknowledged the trust of artists, the dedication of the team, and the support from clients and visitors worldwide.
“Prelude: A Decade of Art Twenty One” pays homage to the creative visionaries who have graced the gallery, reflecting on the evolution of Lagos’ cultural landscape. The exhibition positions Nigeria as a cultural powerhouse, showcasing the present state of contemporary art in Africa and beyond.
