Safety Tips: When Checking into a Hotel

When checking into a hotel, there are several things to look out for to ensure your safety:

Check the hotel’s location

First, consider the location of the hotel and whether it is in a safe area. If you are unsure, ask the hotel staff or do some research online.

Check the hotel’s safety and security measures

When you are satisfied with the hotel’s location, ask the hotel staff about their safety and security measures, such as security cameras, security personnel, and a safe in the room.

Check the door and window locks

Next, make sure the door and window locks are secure and in good working condition. If they appear damaged or easily compromised, request a room change.

Check for peepholes and door viewers

Ensure that the door has a peephole or door viewer so you can see who is outside before opening the door.

Check the location of the fire exits and emergency exits

Make sure you know where the nearest fire exits and emergency exits are located, and count the number of doors between your room and the exit.

Check the condition of the room

Look for any signs of damage such as, broken furniture or electrical outlets, and report them to the hotel staff.

Check the hotel’s policy on guests

Ask about the hotel’s policy on allowing guests into your room, and make sure you are comfortable with it.

Check your belongings

Keep track of your belongings and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight. Use the hotel safe to store any valuable items.

 Trust your instincts

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and report your concerns to the hotel staff. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
