Critique of Komeh Swish’s ENCHANTED Bridal collection

June 22,2024

By Yemisi Suleiman

Komeh Swish’s ENCHANTED bridal collection, designed by Awharota Miriam Kome, is a stunning ode to the modern bride who seeks both opulence and sophistication.

Through ENCHANTED, Komeh Swish has once again proved its mastery in blending luxury with style, offering an impressive range of bridal gowns that embody grace and timeless elegance.

With delicate fabrics, intricate embellishments, and exquisite tailoring, the collection seems to celebrate every bride’s dream of feeling like royalty on her special day.

While ENCHANTED is undoubtedly a beautiful collection, there are a few areas where it could have been pushed further to achieve even greater impact and address some current bridal wear trends and concerns.

1. A Refined Color Palette

The collection predominantly features soft, traditional ivory and off-white hues, which are classic choices for bridal gowns. However, to further elevate the sense of exclusivity, incorporating alternative shades—like soft champagne, blush, or even pastel hues—could have added variety without compromising the collection’s refined aesthetic.

Bridal trends are increasingly moving towards color experimentation, with some brides seeking gowns that break away from traditional whites. A curated palette of non-traditional shades could appeal to those brides looking for a more personalized touch, while still maintaining the collection’s luxurious feel.

2. Increased Focus on Silhouette DiversityWhile the ENCHANTED collection undeniably boasts stunning designs, it could have benefited from a broader range of silhouettes that cater to a more diverse set of body types. Currently, many of the gowns lean towards traditional, slim-fit styles, with an emphasis on form-fitting designs. Including more ballgowns, A-line silhouettes, and even some softer, looser cuts would cater to brides who prefer different shapes, while still maintaining a sense of elegance. Introducing various fits could also appeal to brides seeking comfort and ease of movement while maintaining a glamorous look.

3. Balancing Tradition with Modernity

The gowns in ENCHANTED undoubtedly reflect traditional bridal sensibilities—intricate lace, regal beading, and classic embroidery all play key roles. However, a few designs might benefit from a more contemporary twist. Subtle modern updates, like minimalistic, clean lines or an unexpected play with asymmetry, could have been incorporated into the collection to strike a balance between timeless bridal beauty and current trends. A focus on contemporary elements—such as architectural design, bold sleeves, or innovative fabric textures—would speak to the bride who wants something truly unique and forward-thinking, without losing the classic bridal allure.

4. Emphasis on Textural Play

The use of luxurious fabrics such as satin, tulle, and organza is evident, yet there seems to be room for more innovation when it comes to textures. Exploring different fabric combinations, such as pairing silk with lace or incorporating sheer elements with heavier materials, could have enhanced the collection’s visual depth. Additionally, the use of 3D embellishments like floral appliqués or hand-embroidered details could give some of the gowns a more tactile, organic feel. Textural contrast would not only bring more dimensionality to the gowns but also give the bride the option of expressing individuality through rich fabric variety.

5. Innovative Necklines and Sleeve Details

While the collection offers a selection of beautiful necklines—from plunging to sweetheart styles—there seems to be a lack of exploration into innovative necklines or sleeve details that could push the designs into new territory. Bridal necklines are an area where a designer can truly differentiate their collection. Bold choices such as high-neck silhouettes, off-the-shoulder designs, or dramatic collar elements could give the gowns a distinctive edge. Similarly, sleeves—whether voluminous, puffed, or long-sleeved lace—can take a gown from classic to couture with the right treatment. More experimentation in these areas could make ENCHANTED even more exceptional.

6. Sustainability Considerations

As sustainability continues to be a driving factor in consumer decisions, a strong sustainability message could have been introduced within ENCHANTED. Brides are increasingly drawn to ethical and eco-friendly fashion, and incorporating sustainable practices—whether it’s through the use of organic fabrics, eco-conscious packaging, or transparent sourcing—would give the collection an additional layer of appeal. By addressing the growing demand for sustainable bridal fashion, Komeh Swish could ensure that ENCHANTED not only delivers beauty but also speaks to the environmentally-conscious bride.

7. Greater Attention to Accessories

While the gowns themselves are undeniably magnificent, the absence of complementary accessories, such as headpieces, veils, or jewelry, makes the collection feel slightly incomplete. Accessories are often what make the difference in a bridal look, and introducing a range of statement pieces—such as tiaras, delicate veils, or sparkling jewelry—would have helped to round out the ENCHANTED experience. Incorporating matching accessories designed specifically for the gowns would elevate the brand’s offering and give brides the option to purchase an entire bridal ensemble that feels cohesive and well-curated

.8. More Inclusivity in Design

Finally, while the collection offers stunning gowns, it would benefit from considering the diverse needs of brides in terms of cultural and personal style preferences. Introducing more design elements that reflect global bridal traditions—whether through intricate beadwork, culturally-inspired silhouettes, or vibrant fabric choices—could increase the collection’s relevance and appeal to brides from different backgrounds. In addition, expanding size options would ensure that every bride, regardless of body type, feels confident and beautiful in Komeh Swish designs.

Conclusion

ENCHANTED by Komeh Swish is a beautiful and luxurious bridal collection that offers the sophisticated bride a selection of timeless pieces to choose from. The attention to detail in fabric choice, embellishment, and tailoring is evident in each gown, and Awharota Miriam Kome’s design language shines through in the collection’s royal and ethereal themes.

However, to elevate the collection further, introducing more diverse silhouettes, incorporating modern elements, exploring texture play, and expanding sustainability efforts would solidify ENCHANTED as a collection that speaks to the future of bridal fashion, while still retaining the elegance and grandeur brides desire.By blending traditional opulence with innovative updates and a stronger focus on inclusivity, ENCHANTED could become a trailblazer in the bridal wear industry, appealing to a broader range of brides and setting new standards for bridal luxury.
