Planning to visit Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria? Then we welcome you in advance to a city where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously.

Abuja is a captivating blend of cultural diversity, stunning landscapes, and a burgeoning metropolis.

Above all, one thing you’re sure to find most interesting and memorable about the city, is its unique street foods which you shouldn’t dare to skip. Find ahead the top street delicacies to try while visiting Abuja. Be hygiene-conscious, though!

Kilishi

A form of jerky made from deboned cow, goat or sheep meat, Kilishi is the food everyone who travels to Abuja returns home with. Be careful though, as most can be really spicy and traumatic if you haven’t got the liver for spicy foods.

Fura de Nunu

This is a mixture of yoghurt produced by the Fulani from cow milk, and Fura, produced from ground semi-cooked smallish balls of millet with or without sugar. You will notice beautiful Fulani ladies with big calabashes containing it. It is spiced with ginger, cloves and occasionally, pepper; and may be garnished with raspberries and blueberries. This delicacy is loaded with vitamins.

Dambu

Dambu
is another popular meat snack in Abuja. It is usually made with lamb, beef or chicken. Dambu could be eaten on its own or with other foods such as fried eggs and rice.

Burabisco:

This is a healthy and yummy meal made from couscous or gari. It’s a strong immune booster and also aids weight loss. Burabisco is made with sliced peppers, beef or chicken and usually yummy and super spicy.

Kuli-Kuli

Kuli-kuli may have become a popular Nigerian snack but the best kinds still come from northern places like Abuja. Made from roasted peanuts/groundnuts which are grounded to a semi-paste, spiced and then deep fried until it hardens, it could be enjoyed alone or with a mixture of gari, sugar and water.

Masa

Another Abuja staple, Masa or Waina is similar to a pan-fried rice cake. It’s made from a type of rice called sinasir which is extremely white in colour. Masa is extremely delicious and loved by all.
