Farida Shuaibu’s Anabo Collection: A Tribute to Ebira Royalty

On the 24th of August, 2024 , I had the distinct honor of attending an exclusive private fashion show where Farida Shuaibu, a visionary in the world of African fashion, unveiled her latest masterpiece—the “Anabo” Collection.

The name “Anabo,” which translates to “Royalty” in the Ebira language, sets the tone for a collection that is as much a celebration of cultural heritage as it is a display of sartorial excellence.

Farida, renowned for her ability to seamlessly blend traditional influences with contemporary design, has once again delivered a collection that not only honors the rich history of the Ebira Kingdom but also redefines how African culture can be expressed through modern fashion.

Farida’s approach to fashion is nothing short of innovative. She has a unique gift for merging tradition with modernity in a way that feels both fresh and respectful of her roots. The “Anabo” Collection is a testament to this talent, featuring a diverse range of designs that capture the essence of regal sophistication. From flowing robes that evoke the grandeur of royal attire to sharply tailored suits that exude power and elegance, each piece in the collection tells a story of heritage and luxury.

The craftsmanship on display was impeccable. Every garment in the “Anabo” Collection was a work of art, with attention to detail evident in every stitch, seam, and embellishment. The fabrics were carefully selected to reflect the collection’s royal theme, with rich textures and opulent finishes that underscored the sense of majesty.

The overall presentation of the collection was a visual feast, with each piece thoughtfully designed to convey a narrative of cultural pride and contemporary relevance.

One of the standout designs of the evening was a stunning white robe adorned with minimalist black detailing.

This piece immediately caught my eye for its quiet authority and understated elegance. The robe’s design was a masterclass in balance—simple yet profound, modern yet steeped in tradition.

The lion emblem embroidered on the back added a layer of symbolism, representing power, strength, and the royal lineage of the Ebira people. The clean, modern lines of the robe, combined with its impeccable flow and fit, made it a commanding presence on the runway, effortlessly encapsulating the collection’s theme of royalty.

Another piece that left a lasting impression was a vibrant pink cape paired with sleek black trousers, accented with delicate gold chain details. This ensemble perfectly encapsulated Farida’s ability to blend tradition with modernity. The cape, with its rich color and graceful movement, evoked the image of a powerful queen, while the black trousers added a contemporary edge, grounding the look in modern fashion.

The bold choice of pink was both daring and effective, adding a fresh twist to the royal theme while maintaining a sense of elegance and sophistication.

The “Anabo” Collection also featured an array of other remarkable pieces, each contributing to the overall narrative of cultural heritage and royal grandeur.

The meticulous embroidery, the luxurious fabrics, and the thoughtful use of color all spoke to Farida’s deep understanding of fashion as both an art form and a means of cultural expression. The private setting of the show allowed me to fully appreciate the intricate details and craftsmanship of each garment, bringing to light the extraordinary talent and vision behind the collection.

It’s worth noting that the “Anabo” Collection has already garnered significant attention in fashion circles, with features in prominent publications like The Native Mag.

This recognition is well-deserved, as the collection not only showcases Farida Shuaibu’s ability to bring African culture into the modern fashion landscape but also positions her as a leading voice in the global fashion industry.

Through the “Anabo” Collection, Farida continues to demonstrate that African royalty can be beautifully expressed in fashion that speaks to the contemporary world.

Her work is a celebration of culture, tradition, and innovation, offering a fresh perspective on how heritage can be woven into the fabric of modern life. The “Anabo” Collection is more than just a display of beautiful clothing; it is a powerful statement of identity, creativity, and the enduring legacy of African culture.

As I left the show, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by the depth and breadth of Farida Shuaibu’s vision. The “Anabo” Collection is a shining example of how fashion can transcend mere aesthetics to become a meaningful expression of cultural pride and modern elegance. Farida’s work continues to push the boundaries of African fashion, and I am excited to see how she will continue to influence and inspire the global fashion scene in the years to come.
