Critique Review of 928 Apparels and Fashion Institute Latest AJÈRÈ Collection
By Yemisi Suleiman
Having followed 928 Apparels since its inception, it’s been an inspiring journey witnessing the evolution and growth of the brand over the years. From the first collection we saw, 928 Apparels has consistently demonstrated a keen sense of craftsmanship, blending contemporary design with cultural nuances.

This latest collection, previewed by our team 10 months ago on is a continuation of that trajectory but with several exciting new dimensions.
At first glance, this collection radiates bold confidence, underlined by a vibrant color palette, particularly the striking orange backdrop in the editorial imagery. The use of colors, especially the earthy yellows, deep blacks, and sharp patterns, speaks volumes about the brand’s intent to make a statement. The pieces exude a blend of urban sophistication with an artistic edge that feels fresh, modern, and unapologetically African.

The tunic-styled top worn with tailored trousers, combined with modern accessories like black crossbody bags and sunglasses, makes this collection ideal for the urban gentleman. The styling is not only bold but versatile, easily transitioning from day to night. We also appreciate how the collection balances tradition and contemporary streetwear seamlessly.
In terms of craftsmanship, the attention to detail is evident. The structured silhouettes, clean lines, and high-quality fabric choices reflect the brand’s focus on delivering premium products. The textures used in the fabrics also add a dynamic element, with splashes of abstract patterns against solid colors giving the designs a unique, layered visual appeal.
It’s also worth noting that the brand continues to push boundaries with its fits. The combination of relaxed and structured tailoring is very much on-trend and aligns with the broader move in menswear toward pieces that offer comfort without sacrificing style.

In comparison to previous collections, this release feels more polished and refined. Over the years, we’ve seen 928 Apparels grow from experimental beginnings to a much more established aesthetic identity. This collection signals a deepening maturity in the brand’s vision and an increasing mastery of execution.
However, as with all growing brands, there is always room for further development. One area where we believe 928 Apparels and Fashion Institute could push further is in the diversification of silhouettes. While the collection nails the urban, casual, and semi-formal spaces, there could be room to explore more avant-garde shapes or unique layering techniques, which would further distinguish the brand in a crowded market.

Additionally, while the designs are strong, there is potential to explore storytelling through accessories. Perhaps developing signature, statement pieces, be it custom footwear or more daring bags could add another layer of depth to the brand’s identity. In terms of branding, building more narrative around the inspiration behind the collection would offer consumers a stronger emotional connection to the pieces.

We also think expanding the color palette in future collections might open the door for more daring and unexpected combinations. The current collection is bold, but pushing the envelope with unconventional hues or introducing complementary fabrics like denim or textured knits could broaden the brand’s appeal and versatility.

Overall, the AJÈRÈ collection is a powerful step forward for 928 Apparels as It successfully encapsulates a modern, Afrocentric aesthetic, while maintaining a timeless appeal. The brand’s growth is undeniable, and with a few strategic developments, 928 Apparels has the potential to solidify itself as a leading name in contemporary African fashion. We’re excited to see where Omolade Collins takes this brand next.
