The Grace Foundation, a part of The Grace Trybe Organization, celebrated Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day on October 1, 2024, by providing food hampers, clothing, and medical supplies to over 3000 residents of Lagos. This event was the 11th edition of the foundation’s annual outreach program, Hands Up For Nigeria, held at the Navy Town Sports Complex in Satellite, Lagos.
The day’s activities commenced with a health seminar delivered by Dr. Lillian Egbo-Nnamani of Emel Hospital Festac and a team of medical professionals from the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Lagos. The seminar focused on Utaricia, an itchy rash that appears on the skin, and provided tips for prevention and treatment. Following the health talk, attendees received free medical check-ups, clothing, and food items.
Bishop Omar Akpona Pela, Founder and Senior Pastor of The Grace Trybe, expressed that the foundation aimed to positively impact the community and cater to people’s physical needs. He acknowledged the escalating food expenses affecting many Nigerian families and emphasized the message of hope and faith in God during these challenging times.
Co-founder Pastor Jane Pela described the gesture as a heartfelt community outreach, offering crucial support to families and celebrating Nigeria’s greatness. The Foundation’s Convener and President highlighted the importance of compassion and generosity, stating that the distribution of food hampers, clothes, and medical supplies demonstrated the organization’s commitment to upholding core human values.
The foundation aims to show love and support to people, regardless of their religion or tribe, by providing food items, medical supplies, and check-ups. They encouraged well-to-do and kind-hearted individuals to support the less privileged and vulnerable, as government alone cannot cater to all.
The event featured light entertainment and accommodated over 3,000 people. Recipients expressed overwhelming gratitude for the food hampers, which significantly relieved families facing economic challenges. The Grace Foundation remains committed to its mission of compassion and assistance, resonating strongly with the community.
