NGO partners OPay, donates educational materials to Lagos public schools

Over 800 beneficiaries from Jibril Martins Memorial Primary School, Agege, Issa Williams Primary School and Anwar-ul Islam, Agege also got school bags, school shoes, note books, stationaries , and teaching aid supplies under the OPay Back -to- School Project.

The project aims to enhance educational access for underserved children by providing critical school materials, teaching aids, and interactive mentorship sessions. By equipping these pupils with essential resources and skills, the project aspires to promote academic success and foster a sustainable, supportive learning environment for children who may face significant barriers to education.

Speaking at the event, Itoro Udo, Corporate Social Responsibility Project Manager, OPay Digital Services Limited Nigeria, observed that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future. Yet, for many students across Lagos, financial constraints have stood as insurmountable barriers to accessing quality education.

Additionally, many children have had to drop out of school because their parents could not afford to provide basic school needs for them.

This, according to him, is why OPay is partnering with organisations such Dolly Children Foundation to meet these needs of the children.

“We recognise the critical importance of addressing these challenges and support education in communities. OPay is steadfast in its commitment to levelling the playing field and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” Udo said.

In her remarks, Mr Kehinde Bukola James, HOS Human Resources Management and Admin, who represented Mrs Catherine Ogunyomi, Education Secretary, commended the organisations for their generosity and thoughtfulness towards the pupils.

She noted that many of the pupils in the school needed the donated items. He then pleaded for further help in alleviating some of the other school’s needs.

“We also want you to use your power and humanitarian acts to provide potable water supply and toilets in the schools,” he pleaded.

Earlier in her opening speech, Mrs Adedolapo Osuntuyi. The Executive Director of the Dolly Children Foundation stated that the donation, which is coming under the “Back to School project”, aims at building upon its established projects focused on education.

She added that the organisation’s interest in underserved children is to reach those most in need, giving these children access to quality education and helping them build a solid foundation upon which they will lay other bricks of life.

“Education is the only weapon you can use to break the wheel of poverty. That is why, as an organisation, we are focused on ensuring every child attends and remains in school. This intervention is to assist pupils in these primary schools with learning materials to ensure they remain focused and remain in school,” Osuntuyi said.
