The AFAA Runway Showcase 2024 in Cape Town offered many stunning moments, but none quite like the Luminari Label collection by House of Gianna.

Directed by the creative director and innovative designer Winifred Areghan Onosetale, the collection made its debut on November 7th, dazzling the audience with its bold patterns, cultural influences, and modern, inclusive approach to fashion. It was a masterclass in blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics, leaving an indelible mark on the event.

The collection opened with a striking unisex outfit that immediately grabbed attention. A navy-blue ensemble with bold graphic text patterns combined oversized tailoring with a streetwear edge. The simple underlayers and barefoot model gave the look an authentic, grounded feel. The outfit proved that minimalism and bold design could coexist beautifully, setting the tone for what was to come.
The second look brought vibrant African cultural aesthetics to life. A shirt featuring colourful illustrations of traditional figures in celebratory poses was paired with sleek black shorts.

The balance of artistry and practicality highlighted House of Gianna’s ability to honour heritage while appealing to modern, cosmopolitan sensibilities. The model’s high ponytail braid added an element of playful sophistication, perfectly complementing the outfit’s dynamic cultural theme.

Fluidity and elegance took centre stage with the third look: an oversized cobalt blue floral ensemble. The flowing pieces exuded refinement, while the earthy floral motifs brought a timeless charm to the design. The exaggerated silhouette struck the perfect balance between drama and sophistication, further enhanced by the model’s braided hairstyle adorned with pops of colour. It was a standout moment that showcased the collection’s bold yet thoughtful approach to design.

The fourth look transformed abstract art into wearable fashion. A matching shirt and pants ensemble featured a vibrant mix of orange, black, white, and blue hues, layered with scribbled motifs and artistic graphics. This expressive design embodied individuality and creativity, blending chaos and harmony effortlessly. The lightweight fabric and relaxed fit added comfort and versatility, making the look a favourite for both casual and semi-formal settings.

The next outfit was playful yet polished. A sleeveless wrap shirt and matching shorts in midnight blue polka dot fabric were paired with a colourful thread string belt. The black dots against the dark background created a striking visual, while the vibrant belt added an unexpected pop of colour and character to the look.

The collection’s finale delivered dramatic flair with a navy-blue floral set featuring voluminous sleeves. The bold prints and intricate details on the sleeves added a sense of sophistication, while high-platform footwear elevated the look, quite literally.

The outfit celebrated individuality and modern elegance, closing the show with a statement of bold creativity and inclusivity.

Winifred Areghan Onosetale’s direction brought the Luminari Label collection to life in a way that felt authentic, artistic, and innovative. Every piece showcased her ability to merge cultural storytelling with contemporary fashion. The designs were more than clothes—they were statements, sparking emotion and conversation with their boldness and attention to detail.

House of Gianna has long been recognized for its ability to blend tradition with modernity, and Luminari Label reaffirmed its position as a leader in inclusive fashion. Winifred’s vision, craftsmanship, and ability to celebrate individuality ensured that this collection was not just a highlight of the AFAA Runway Showcase but a defining moment in the evolution of modern fashion.
