The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, took place last Sunday in Lagos.

While the films Lisabi: The Uprising and “Seven Doors” took home the top awards, and Femi Adebayo and Chioma Chukwuka winning the  awards for Best Actor and Actress respectively, it was the glamour of the red carpet that truly captivated everyone.

Celebrities dazzled on the red carpet with their extravagant, stylish, and eye-catching outfits, sparking curiosity about the price tag behind their glamorous looks.

Award-winning stylist Yolanda Okereke, nominated for Best Costume for her work on ‘House of Gah‘, who wore a striking strapless gown with bold artistic design by House of Gigatts, puts the value at about N800,000.

Actress Laide Bakare whose outfit was designed by Topmore, revealed that her entire ensemble cost less than a million. She added that her choice was determined by her need for “comfort,  simplicity and elegance.”

Mercy Eke made headlines with her extravagant diamond dress, reportedly costing an astonishing 38 million naira. Adjudged to be one of the best dressed for the night, Mercy’s gown is predominantly silver, with sparkling details that created an illusion of crystal or ice.

As the standard rise each year at the AMVCA, it’s not about being seen anymore but about being remembered. Ghana’s Nana Akua Addo show-stopping dress by Iris van Herpen which left a huge impression no doubt cost a fortune as she described herself as “the show” on her Instagram page.

Big Brother Naija star, Doyin David, made a very impressive showing at the AMVCA this year, standing out in a stunning nature-inspired masterpiece. Although the cost could not be acertained, the  form-fitting green dress placed her as one of the best dressed for the night.

Overall, the fashion choices made by these celebrities at the AMVCA 2025, reflect broader trends in the industry, including support for local designers, the balance between comfort and style, and the ongoing discussion on the pressure on celebrities to look good.
