It was two days of fashion extravaganza as London, the UK capital, was transformed into a vibrant fashion landscape with the 15th edition of Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) taking center stage. Held at Space House, the 15th edition of AFWL celebrated African creativity, culture, and tradition through spectacular runway shows, a lively marketplace, and a prestigious awards ceremony.

Day One kicked off with a bustling African Marketplace, buzzing with energy and showcasing a stunning mix of designer pieces and handcrafted treasures. The event opened with an innovative collection by students from the Winchester School of Arts, setting a high standard for creativity. Designers such as Makenzy, with her elegant crochet dresses and tops, Samson Soboye’s glamorous “Black Majesty Kingdom” collection, David Wej’s stylish men’s suits, Ebewele Brown’s fresh take on luxury streetwear with his Sainte and Oldwyn collections, and Mary Martin London’s distinctive designs all impressed the audience.

The day also featured a cultural showcase by the African Centre and a memorable live performance by the cast of The Lion King. A standout presentation came from Meta AI in collaboration with I.N Official, featuring striking black jackets with fringe details and pieces crafted mainly from traditional aso oke fabric, including a red bomber jacket and skirt.

Day Two began with the AFWL 2025 Masterclass, bringing together designers, creatives, and industry professionals for hands-on learning and inspiration. The runway show that followed was filled with bold creativity and craftsmanship. Highlights included Sissymeme Couture’s vibrant and elegant designs, a stunning collaboration with Kwara State that brought Adire textiles to life, and impressive collections from House of Estree and Tote Londoner.

The event’s pinnacle was the Ojude Oba-Inspired Catwalk, a majestic procession of distinguished personalities from Ijebu-Ode dressed in rich Aso Oke fabrics, couture tailoring, sculpted headpieces, coral jewelry, intricate beading, and refined embroidery. Each look celebrated heritage, community, and craftsmanship, embodying unity, pride, and tradition.

In addition to the fashion showcases, AFWL 2025 honoured individuals who have made significant contributions to African Fashion Week and culture globally. The First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazaq, who also serves as the Matron of AFWL 2025, received the AFWL Legacy Award. Olori Ronke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, founder of Africa Fashion Week London, praised her as “a steadfast champion of women’s empowerment, cultural heritage, and the creative economy,” noting that her leadership and support have inspired designers and artisans alike.

Other awardees included Dr. Evon Christy, Joan Okorodudu, Anne Marie, and Prince John Oluropo Ogunwusi, father of the Ooni of Ife, who was honored as the “Cultural Historian of Our Time.

The event was attended by a distinguished group of dignitaries, including Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazaq, Royal Father Baba Oba Prince John Oluropo Ogunwusi, Olori Magret Ogunwusi, Yeye Oodua Erelu Abiola Dossumu, Erelu Kuti of Lagos, Erelu Olajumoke (wife of a prominent Nigerian senator), Prince Adegboyega Ogunwusi Sooko Laekun of The Source, Dr. Yvonne Thompson, celebrity Farouk, Prince Jide Fadairo, and Princess Afolasade Ogunwusi Fadairo, among others.

Founded by Olori Ronke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, Africa Fashion Week London continues to be a powerful platform that celebrates African sophistication by blending fashion, culture, and tradition, inspiring and elevating African creatives on the global stage.
