GoldenHouseOfFab Shines Bright at West Yorkshire Fashion Week

West Yorkshire Fashion Week, the latest addition to Britain’s growing fashion calendar, is fast emerging as a standard-bearer of creative excellence in the United Kingdom.

The recent edition which took place at the fashionable Gomersal Park Hotel and Spa in Cleckheaton, showcased an exhilarating mix of culture, creativity, and up-and-coming design talent.

Founded by fashion design graduate Hollie Lesley Haughin, the initiative aims to highlight designers beyond London’s busy circuit, allowing them room to flourish and showcasing the intersection of fashion and community.

Among the highlighted titles was GoldenHouseOfFab, founded by Golden Iwuji, a designer renowned for mixing African-print fabrics into modern European silhouettes.

The brand’s presentation was anything but understated, the collection featured a vibrant collision of colour, culture, and couture sensibility.

GoldenHouseOfFab’s runway collection was a celebration of Bold Femininity an affective journey of hardness and softness, proving the designer’s increasing mastery of form and storytelling.

One of the stand out looks, One – a lavish purple ruffled dress in puffed shoulders and asymmetrical hem, definitely caught everyone’s eye. Its cropped bodice, cutaway neckline, and waterfall-like folds beautifully outlined the body, creating a bold, modern silhouette for the wearer.

The application of lightweight taffeta gave the garment sculptural refinement, maintaining its volume but fluid with movement.
Paired with understated accessories and lavender heels, the look exuded sensuality and power in equal proportion. While the neck could be too provocative for others, its overwhelming boldness is a reminder of the brand’s daringness, one that makes bold, unapologetic strides to high fashion.

The second showstopper of the collection, a puffy emerald and fuchsia gown — was one of proportion and colour contrast. The artfully constructed off-shoulder bodice, its tumbling ruffled sleeves, cascaded into a cloud of tiered tulle in glittering pink. It was haute drama, yet it was sophisticated, bringing couture fantasy to the Yorkshire catwalk. The creator’s skill was in the effortless transition from corseted top to flying skirt, a balance not one to be taken lightly.

Another captivating look, is a purple jumpsuit cinched at the waist with a triangular-shaped inbuilt belt. One sleeve, features dramatic cascading ruffles reminiscent of a peacock feather, while the look is finished with minimal accessories for an elegant touch. This look is made for the confident, fashion-forward woman who loves to make a statement with her style. Think of someone with a bold yet refined fashion sense, perhaps a red-carpet regular, a style influencer, or a creative professional attending a high-profile event. It’s the kind of outfit you’d see on celebrities or women who balance elegance with a touch of drama.

I particularly loved a lace skirt paired with an Ankara blouse featuring a vibrant leaf motif in blooming hues. The blouse is designed in an elegant off-shoulder style, with a delicate leaf detail gracefully resting on the shoulders. This look speaks to the designer’s creativity and ability to merge two cultures in design and aesthetics.

Strengths and Refinement
The defining feature of GoldenHouseOfFab is the fearless use of fabric, structure, and colour narrative. Each look conveyed culture pride and feminine assurance in spades, prime signatures of a designer who realizes that fashion is more than cloth; it’s presence, strength, and identity.
A measure of restraint, though, would go a long way toward making the showmanship even more refined. Some details are close to tipping towards costume-like excess — primarily scale and amount of ruffles, that, while visually provocative, can limit wearability as much as merchandising potential. Introducing a couple of streamlined silhouettes or day-to-evening transition items would bring the brand to a broader audience without diluting its statement piece.

GoldenHouseOfFab’s show at West Yorkshire Fashion Week was the highlight, an infectious outbreak of global fashion dynamism brought to Northern England. It was a reminder to the audience that African imagination can confidently be positioned on any global catwalk, reconciling cultural heritage with contemporary finish.
With its unapologetic approach to form, texture, and storytelling, the brand cemented itself as one to watch, a bold voice shattering new glamour rules. As the applause echoed within Gomersal Park, it was clear: GoldenHouseOfFab didn’t simply show clothing, it showed confidence, culture, and the power of fashion as art.
