Skin Prep for Valentine’s Day Date Night
By Josephine Agbonkhese
Valentine’s Day is almost here, and whether you are heading out for a candlelit dinner, staying in for an intimate evening, or want to feel your most confident and radiant self, one thing remains true: glowing, healthy skin is the ultimate accessory.

The secret to looking effortlessly luminous on a date night is not heavy makeup; it is a beautiful, well-prepped skin that lets your natural beauty shine through, and makes your makeup sit and last beautifully.
Here’s our complete skin prep guide to help you glow from the inside out this Valentine’s Day.
Step 1: Start Early – Days Before
The best glow does not happen overnight. Give your skin a head start by focusing on hydration, gentle exfoliation, and barrier support in the days leading up to February 14th.
Double cleanse nightly by removing makeup, SPF, and impurities so your active products can work perfectly. Exfoliate 2–3 times max; use a gentle chemical exfoliant to smooth texture and help products penetrate better. Avoid harsh scrubs that can cause redness or micro-tears. Hydrate aggressively; layer a hydrating toner or essence, followed by a hyaluronic acid serum and a rich moisturiser.
- Do not neglect your lips; start using a nourishing lip mask or a thick balm every night to keep them soft and kiss-ready.
Step 2: The Night Before – Your Intensive Glow Treatment
This is your big prep night. Treat it like a mini spa ritual. Make sure to cleanse if you wore makeup and SPF that day. Exfoliate lightly if you haven’t in the last 48 hours. Apply a hydrating sheet mask or overnight mask and leave for 15–30 minutes (or overnight if it’s a sleeping mask). Layer a hydrating serum, then a barrier-repair serum or oil. Moisturise generously. Remember to pop on an under-eye mask or dab a brightening eye cream. Finish with a heavy layer of lip sleeping mask.
Step 3: Valentine’s Day Morning – The Dewy Base
Wake up and give your skin the final love it needs. Gentle cleanse by using a milky or hydrating cleanser to avoid stripping your skin. Reintroduce hydration immediately with a toner. Apply a Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid or niacinamide serum for radiance. Moisturise with a gel-cream, if you want a lightweight glow or a richer cream if your skin is dry. Apply eye cream.
Step 4: Makeup That Enhances Your Glow
Once your skin is plump and hydrated, less is more. Use a radiant primer or illuminating moisturiser. Apply a lightweight, dewy foundation, powder, cream blush and highlighter for that lit-from-within look. Finish with a bold lip; classic red or soft pink, to tie the romantic vibe together.
