Nate Carter laments death of woman who accused him of rape

Reports indicate that a woman, who accused US actor, Nate Parker of rape in 1999 has committed suicide. Reacting to the news, Nate Parker said that he was ”filled with profound sorrow.” Parker had said that he was not aware of the woman’s demise until the news broke.

In a recent Facebook post, he said he was “devastated”. He had said:
“I can’t tell you how hard it is to hear this news,” he wrote. “I can’t help but think of all the implications this has for her family.

”I see now that I may not have shown enough empathy even as I fought to clear my name”

“I cannot – nor do I want to ignore the pain she endured during and following our trial. While I maintain my innocence that the encounter was unambiguously consensual, there are things more important than the law.”

“There is morality; no-one who calls himself a man of faith should even be in that situation. As a 36-year-old father of daughters and person of faith, I look back on that time as a teenager and can say without hesitation that I should have used more wisdom.”

“I look back on that time, my indignant attitude and my heartfelt mission to prove my innocence with eyes that are more wise with time.”

“I see now that I may not have shown enough empathy even as I fought to clear my name. Empathy for the young woman and empathy for the seriousness of the situation I put myself and others in.”

Though he was acquitted of raping the unnamed woman back in the university, it appears the case has been reopened. This is happening at the period  of the release of the actor’s Oscar-tipped film-The Birth of Nation.

The actor was a 19-year-old when he was accused of sexual assault of a 18-year-old Penn State University student along with his roommate, Jean Celestine. While in court, the unnamed woman had said that she was unconscious during the act and never gave consent. However, Parker had laid claims that the woman in question had consensual sex and that it was not their first time.  According to him, he should have applied more wisdom during that period.
Parker is known for his movie roles in Beyond the lights, Non-stop and Red fails.
