By Patricia Uyeh,
World-renowned trichologist, Philip Kingsley has passed away. He died at the age of 86 years.
Born in 1930 in London’s East End, Kingsley opened his first London clinic in Marylebone in 1957 and was treating many actors from the National Theatre by the late Seventies on the personal recommendation of Sir Laurence Olivier.
He is regarded as the first trichologist to link hair health with nutrition. Kingsley was also responsible for introducing the classification of hair by texture (fine, medium, coarse, Afro-Caribbean), rather than type (normal, oily, dry), creating a lasting impact on the way hair care brands formulate their products.
With a career spanning over than 60 years, Kingsley has treated celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Cate Blanchett and Sienna Miller. He had also provided hair solutions for countless others via his London and New York clinics. He offered bestselling product range, most famous product which is the now-legendary Elasticizer mask, began as a bespoke formulation for his client, Audrey Hepburn, who was looking for a solution to her over-styled and over-coloured hair after shooting a movie. Do you know that the product is sold every two minutes internationally?
He also spent much of his time to helping those with severe hair and scalp problems, researching female hair loss at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and developing product to suit the needs of those undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Philip Kingsley is survived by his wife, Joan and their daughters Anabel, Kate, Sue and Helen.
