By Sewe Ishola
The former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole was the king of clapbacks at the Vangaurd Economic Discourse event held today.
His responses had participants at the event reeling in laughter.
The governor went for the moderator of the panel of discussion, founding CEO of GTBank, Mr Fola Adeola regarding his comments, as he welcomed him to the panel.
Opening his remarks on the topic, The Hard Facts To Rescue The Nigerian Economy, Oshiomhole recalled the time, the former was a GMD at the bank and he had been told, not-so beautiful ladies hardly ever passed his interview, hence, “more time was spent on the make up than studying to pass the test.”
“And your comment about me compensating for my height by the wife I married shows the value, you place on women.” This drew quite some laughter from the people.
The Keynote speaker, Professor Charles Soludo wasn’t spared, as he noted how hard the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, found it to transition from being the CBN governor to the political sphere.
He noted that the former governor “didn’t realise how lucky he was to become a governor, as he didn’t have to go through primaries, and elections. When he tried to transition to the “other governor” and didn’t chose the right platform, he knew.”
The governor also noted that being President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was his “finest hour, as at that time, I can insult anyone and go home and sleep. I wasn’t looking for votes or anything.”
