Designer who gave bride’s dress to Mercy Aigbe for photoshoot has been sued (details)

Aggrieved bride, Lawrentta Adesuwa Sawyer, broke the Nigerian social media sphere a few weeks ago, when she called out designer, Maryam Elisha of Rikato by Me, for giving her wedding reception dress to actress Mercy Aigbe to use for her 40th birthday photoshoot. She has gone a step further to sue the designer in question.
The bride in her post online said she gave Maryam the red fabric to make her wedding reception dress in December 2017 and that Maryam failed to deliver the dress to her on the date they agreed. She recognised her dress on Mercy Aigbe and immediately called out Maryam.
It became an internet sensation with many Nigerians calling on her to sue Maraym. Well, it appears she is taking the legal step as her lawyers have written to Maryam demanding a compensation from her.
Recall that Maryam in a post she shared in the first week, apologised to the aggrieved bride online and added that the bride had refused to pick up her calls.
Mercy last week reacted to the controversy the dress has generated. In a statement she posted on her Instagram page, the actress says she has contacted her lawyers to look into the matter.
The statement read; ‘I have followed events as they unfold following a particular dress I wore for a photoshoot. First, I must say that I sincerely sympathise with the bride as this situation is painful, unfortunate and regrettably avoidable.
“I hired and paid Seun @styledbyseun for the photoshoot as a stylist and got four dresses for the shoot. Seun and I were unaware that one of the dresses was meant for someone else. I am embarrassed that the designer was not professional enough in handling events leading to this moment. It is also painful that a bride is made to go through what the bride has been made to go through.
“I have reached out to both the stylist and designer (whom I have never met nor HIRED directly) to express my displeasure.
Maryam has now been sued.
