Nigerian Music Award system is bias – Singer, Brymo

‘Heya’ crooner, Brymo, born Olawale Ashimi, whose posing nude in his music video caused a stir on social media, has raised another topic of discussion. And this time around, it relates to the Nigerian Music Awards system.

Speaking with Planet Radio TV in an interview, Brymo faulted the current music system. According to him, the music system is bias favouring the exploits of Nigerian artistes abroad at the expense of the local ones.
Brymo also likened the situation to what is happening in football. He said that just like the music industry, internationally exposed players gain more recognition than their local counterparts. While condemning the system, he urged the government to emulate the South America system which according to him, is a good example of a system that appreciates the local input of their talent.
Brymo said:
” One problem that we have, is the issue we have in sports where Nigerian players have to successful in Europe before bringing them to play here and that is what is happening in the music industry. Nigerian artistes can not be successful abroad first before they are successful here.Nigerian artiste cannot be artist of the year because he did a big show in another country. No….
” In South America, you can not be the footballer of the year if you do not play in the league. In Africa, if you play in Europe, you would come and become CAF footballer of the year. The footballer of the year should be from CAF champion league
” We need to change this things. The best Nigerian artiste should be the one that toured most of the states, sold most records in the country and did the most in the country. We need to change our perception on these things”
