Ego Boyo question why Nigerian banks now sponsor foreign movie premieres

Nollywood actress and producer, Ego Boyo, has added her voice to the debate on the sponsorship of foreign movies by Nigerian banks and other corporate organisations, when there hasn’t been any notice or interest from Hollywood or the producers of those films.

Recall that elaborate red carpet premieres have been held in Nigeria for Hollywood movies like Black Panther and Ocean 8 in 2018 alone.

The multi-million naira events attended by Nigerian celebrities were generously sponsored by Nigerian banks without any interest shown by the producers of such films.

That got Ego wondering and she posted her thought on Twitter on Saturday.

“Just wondering why some Nigerian banks and corporate organisations sponsor premieres of foreign films.

“No notice or interest from Hollywood or the producers of those films, no appearance by the stars nada,” she wrote.

United Bank for Africa (UBA) sponsored the February premiere of Black Panther in Lagos with celebrities like Mo Abudu, Omoni Oboli, OC Ukeje, Eyinnaya Osigwe, Lala Akindoju and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu present, while a met gala themed premiere sponsored by Diamond Bank was held for Ocean 8 in June with Osas Ighodaro-Ajibade, Waje, Kate Henshaw, Toke Makinwa, Ufuoma McDermott, Omoni Oboli, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi and several other Nollywood glamour ladies in attendance.

Ego, who came into limelight in the old TV series, Checkmate in the early 90s, is currently starring in the TV sitcom, Mr X Family Show, alongside Richard Mofe-Damijo, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Isabella Idibia, Nina Anyianuka, Mozez Praiz and others.
