Selfie with Delphine Okobah

July 30,2018
Share:

From a career in architecture to a multi-layered media mogul as she loves to call herself, Delphine Okobah has created a brand for herself-The Delphinator that dissects everything well on TV.

Delphine is a Youtuber but with love for movies. In no time, her passion for the job, set her apart from others as she has grown on social space and expanded her reach.

In this edition, Delphinator talks about fashion, travel, and beauty in this print Selfie!

What’s fashion to you?
Fashion to me means comfort. I try not to wear things I’m not comfortable in, but then that’s my personal perspective to it.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style Is whimsical and laid back. I’m not a fan of too many things going on at the same time.

What do you think about the Nigerian fashion industry?
It’s super eclectic. So many options to choose from but, we’re still struggling with getting the perfect finishing and appropriate costing. There are way too many overpriced items!

Who’s your favourite Nigerian designer?
Ah! I’ve got tons of Nigerian designers whose pieces I like to rock. From Andrea Iyamah to Moofa to House of GDI, then there is Spaziolabel. I can keep going on. I feel Nigerian designers are doing great and you can get great pieces from a whole lot of them these days.

What pulled you to Nollywood when you started TheDelphinatorTV?
I went to the Africa International Film Festival is 2016, and I was blown away by the kind of content I saw there. I was convinced I had to shine more light on the progress Nollywood has made in this generation.
Since you’ve been discussing Nollywood and their products, what would you say are some of the significant changes you’ve witnessed?
Oh, Production quality! It’s definitely improved over the years.

What would be your ideal Nollywood?
My ideal Nollywood would be a Nollywood that pays more attention to the story they’re telling, the structure it takes and pacing. These things are really important hence, more attention should be given to it.

Do you have a beauty routine?
Hmmm! Not really. I just make sure I don’t go to bed with Makeup on my face.

I know you’ve been hitting the gym for almost a month now, what informed that decision and how has the journey been?
I made a decision to start going to the gym when I climbed the stairs one day and I couldn’t breathe. So I decided to do something about keeping fit. The decision has been really tough; especially, with staying consistent and having to be at the gym by 5:30 am. I just do my best to trudge along.

How would you describe your eating habit before and after starting your gym session?
I generally just eat one big meal a day which consists mostly of carbs, and a lot of rubbish in between. But since I started working out, I’ve had to change my diet. Now I eat more regularly and in smaller portions at least 4 times a day, with more colours, veggies in each meal.

How do you relax?
After much work, I try to relax the best ways I can which are through watching movies, reading books or hangibg out with friends.

What are your ideal vacation spots in Africa and the world?
I’d love to visit Marrakech and Machu Picchu

What are you passionate about in life?
Making sure I finish the work I was placed on earth to do.

What’s your watchword in life?
One word I try my best to live by is to be consistent.

What words do you have for young people looking to treading the same path as you?
My advice to young people who want to do a similar job is that they should know and understand that life is in phases; they shouldn’t be in such a hurry. Give yourself time to grow.
