Allure Awards 2018: MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR – Burna Boy

January 6,2019
Share:

Though he began the year trying to recover/redeem his nearly damaged image and music career after a scandalous robbery/physical assault charge levelled against him by fellow musician, Mr. 2Kay, Damini Ogulu, popularly known by his stage name, Burna Boy, crawled his way back to positive limelight after the release of his album, ‘Outside’ in January.

The breakout single from the album, ‘Ye’ is regarded as the official 2018 anthem.
A significant moment for him was when his picture lit up a billboard in Times Square, New York, chosen as one of Youtube’s Global ‘Artiste on the Rise’.

From releasing hit songs such as ‘Gbona’, ‘On the Low’, ‘Heaven’s Gate’, featuring Lilly Allen, to shooting mind-blowing visuals to each of them, shutting down major international and local shows, touring the UK, Burna Boy was able to put Davido and Wizkid on their toes.

He raked in more credits from music pundits as Nigerian artiste of the year. ThoughBurna may not boast of major award wins like Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Simi and others worthy of note, 2018 has been described as Burna Boy’s year in the music industry.

If there is one thing Burna Boy is widely known for; it is how passionate he is about music, not just his music, but music generally.

He further attested to this fact by bringing out the industry’s most sought-after and critically acclaimed, to share the stage with him at his concert ‘Burna Live’, which was organised by Loud Africa and held on the 26th of December, 2018 at EKO Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
