HEALTHY LIVING: WHITE WINE VS RED WINE. WHICH IS HEALTHIER?
The differences between red and white wines go far beyond just the choice of grapes and the colour. So I decided to explore some differences between red & white wines!
Take a look
WHITE WINE:
INGREDIENTS: white wines are made with white grapes (Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, etc).
HOW IT’S MADE: White wine can be made with either white or red grapes. The major difference between white and red wine is that white wines are fermented without the grape skins. First the grapes are pressed off the skins and then the sweet grape juice is collected to be fermented into wine.
NUTRITION: Per glass, 121 Cal (4g sugar, 1g carb)
RED WINE:
INGREDIENTS: Fundamentally speaking, red wines are made with red grapes (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, etc.)
HOW IT’S MADE: One of the most important differences is that red wines are fermented with the grape skins and seeds and white wines are not.
️ This is because all the color in red wine comes from the skins and seeds of the grapes.
NUTRITION: Per glass, 125 Cal (4g sugar, 1g carb) –
VERDICT: Because red wine grapes are fermented with the skin on, this provides beneficial plant compounds as well as give wine its colour. Grapes for white wine, on the other hand, have their skins removed so not as much but are lower in calories.
Overall, red wine has a slight edge over white because it has higher amounts of vitamins & minerals.
In terms of calories, they are neck to neck, nevertheless, white wine has fewer calories. At the end of the day, dry wines contain minimal sugars so choosing red or white doesn’t matter as much as opting for dry over sweet.
